On 13th September 2017 at the National Library of Ireland in Dublin, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin (Ireland Professor of Poetry) delivered the first in a series of three public lectures to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Society for Renaissance Studies. The series takes Renaissance senses as its theme. Focusing upon the sense of smell, Ní Chuilleanáin took us through a wealth of texts and sensory experiences, covering how Ovid and Aristotelian ideas regarding the senses, the body and cognition influenced early modern poetry. Drawing from Spenser and other Renaissance writers, but focusing in particular on the work of John Donne, this rich lecture is now available online. Treat your ears to a stimulating sensory experience by hearing Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin’s SRS lecture.
