Welcome to the Scottish Branch of the Society for Renaissance Studies. This aims to support research events and other related activities that are intended to promote the interdisciplinary study of the Renaissance period. There are several Scottish-based academic institutions that specialise in the study of Renaissance culture and are actively involved in fostering research and disseminating knowledge about this period. They include the Glasgow Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, the Early Modern Seminar in Scotland (EMSIS), the Aberdeen Centre for Early Modern Studies, and the Scottish Institute of Northern Renaissance Studies (SINRS) based at Stirling. Each of the above named institutions or seminar groups has its own dedicated website which publicises forthcoming research events. The online bi-annual, peer-reviewed Journal of the Northern Renaissance was launched in 2009 with the support of the Universities of Glasgow, Strathclyde and Stirling, and will shortly be producing its fourth Issue on the Legacy of the Will. The Society for Renaissance Studies would also welcome applications for holding collaborative events in museums, galleries, libraries and archives (for example, the National Library of Scotland) and other venues. If you wish to seek funding from the Scottish Branch for research events or activities relating to the Renaissance period, please send an application in the form of an email to the Scottish Representative (a.thorne@strath.ac.uk).
Applications for small grants from the Scottish Branch (for example, subsidising travel costs to enable postgraduates to attend research events held in Scotland) should be addressed to Dermot Cavanagh at dermot.cavanagh@ed.ac.uk. Applications for Major Conference Grants and Small Conference Grants should be addressed to the Professor Claire Jowitt (claire.jowitt@ntu.ac.uk) Conference Officer, Society for Renaissance Studies, School of Arts and Sciences, Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham, NG11 8NS. Further guidelines on applying for conference grants may be found here.
